Our aim is to connect local people of all abilities with sport and recreation opportunities in their community. The information provided on these pages will assist you to get involved and answer many of your questions about becoming more physically active.

| What is Physical Activity? | | The World Health Organisation defines physical activity as all movements in everyday life , including work, recreation, exercise and sporting activities.
The Australian National Physical Activity Guidelines recommmended that the daily requirement of physical activity is 30 minutes of action at moderate intensity. However, three 10 minute sessions per day can be just as effective to obtain significant health benefits.
Moderate Activity will cause a slight but noticeable increase in your breathing and heart rate, while vigorous implies activity that makes you 'huff n puff''. |  |
| Why Participate? | | Regular physical activity not only protects you against many illnesses, it also helps keep us mentally healthy, alert and resilient against the stresses of modern living.
Physically active communties are more likely to be healthier communities, and active people are more likely to exeperience a better quality of life. Increased particpation is good fo you and your community as it can: |  |
 | Decrease the social and econmic cost of illness. |  | Improve mental health and wellbeing by reducing feelings of stress, anxiety and depression. |  | Create involved and active communities - making them good places to live. |  | Regular physical activity decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease, particuarly coronary heart disease with studies showing that you are twice as likely to have a heart attack if you don't undertake moderate to intense physical activity each day. |  | Physical Activity lowers blood pressure and decreases the chance of devloping Type 2 Diabetes. It raises the levels of good cholesterol (HDL) and can be protective against some forms of cancer. |  | People who participate in sports or other types of activities at an early age (especially during adolescence) are more likely to be physically active adults. |
